I am not "we"

“I am not WE”

We destroy one another through bullying,
Through rape,
Through epithets,
Through racism,
Sexism,
Ableism,
Ageism,
And a million more –isms

I do not bully,
I do not rape,
I do not slander others due to different identities,
I respect other races,
The opposite sex,
Others of different ability status,
Those who are older, and younger,
I respect and love 6 billion people.

Why?
Because I am not WE

I see the world destroying itself,
Its people fighting one another,
Hating one another,
For land,
For ideas,
For beliefs,
For religion,
For reasons that died long ago.

They see me as weak,
Unmotivated,
Lacking passion,
Scared,
Sympathetic,
“One of those people”
Wasting my time in a fight that is not mine.

Why?
Because WE are not ME

We are not alike,
Them and I
Because I am me,
And THEY are the world,
How could I ever be combined with them?
How could anyone mistake them for me?

I am an angry bystander,
To a world that thinks differently than me,
Or is it the same?
We both see that we are nothing alike,
But this is one world,
One set of people,
Regardless of our differences

I, I mean we have a duty to change,
For the better,
To fix the injustice.
We cannot do this one ‘I’ at a time.

Looking in the mirror,
I see me,
I should see we,
Because while I do not see them,
I am them,
The world cannot change if I wait for them,
It cannot change if they wait for me.

We are different,
But I am a part of we,
With these differences,
It is time to celebrate.
