First and Last

Like a jigsaw puzzle with a thousand pieces,
You show up at my door, expecting to be made whole.
Because someone was too careless,
and nobody has cared more,
Finding yourself refilled on ego,
Replenished of self esteem.
Because,
Your needs are always first,
While I finish last

He'll treat you well,
For a month or two, until you're hooked,
As you'll fall further away from me,
You'll mean well, to call, and write,
But as the days go by,
So do good intentions,
Much like these intentions you'll disappear

Your desires will come first,
And I will come last.

A year will have gone by,
Our friendship will be only such on paper,
A bump in the highway of love,
Will lead to a phone call,
Kind words spoken on both ends,
A spark of friendship,
A rekindled flame of familiarity,
Advice will be given,
Advice will be taken,
If it works, the flame will douse,
Failure will only make the flame grow hotter.

Because your happiness comes first,
And another guy I will outlast.

The time will come where we allow ourselves,
To peek in on our friendship,
Our bond, which spoken or not,
And as unintentional as it is,
Will be strengthened,
My strength will be it's foundation,
Your strength drawn from mine.
Giving you confidence,
Leading you to another,
Only to continue this heart wrenching cycle.

Knowing your needs come first,
When will I finally leave at last?
